Thank you for visiting Awadeshalo project, dedicated to enhancing the lives of Ethiopian street children through love,
compassion and education while embracing enviornmentally
and culturally sustainable practices.  This page will contain
information on recent happenings and upcoming events.  So,
keep checking back for updates on progress.

There is a new addition to the team, Katie Batten.  Katie will be graduating from Western Washington University in June with a psychology major and a minor in Teaching English as a Second Language.  We will be adventuring together to Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.  She has already been an integral part of fundraising, helping to organize the pub crawl.  Thank you to her!

Slum Doctor Employment

Previously, Jenny was volunteering weekly at Slum Doctor Programme when their AmeriCorps Volunteer position opened up.  She was offered the job and is now working as thier Education Outreach Coordinator, presenting a global HIV/AIDS curriculum in middle and high school classrooms, specifically focusing on the magnitude and effects of the epidemic in Sub-Saharan Africa.  Lots of learning!

Benefit Dinner:

The dinner on March 7th at Kate Haskell's was a huge success.  A delicious, authentic meal was prepared by Mulu Belay and the night ended with a cultural coffee ceremony.  The night was magically beautiful and we truly appreciate the support.

Pub Crawl

November 22nd, 2008 we fundraised money in the most fun way conceivably possible, by having a party around downtown Bellingham with friends and family.  Reduced prices on drinks were donated at all participating bars and a delicious meal was generously donated at Boundary Bay.  There were approximately 35 crawlers who made their way from Chuckanut Brewery to The Grand, followed by The Wild Buffalo, Boundary Bay and ending at In8 Snow and Skate, a community art and snowboarding space with a performance by the local band Sweet Beats.  It was a smashing success, raising almost $700!  Not to mention, everyone had a wonderful time.  Thank you to everyone involved.

T-Shirts

We have printed t-shirts with the above logo (shifts featured in above photo).  They were printed at In8 Snow and Skate on recycled shirts purchased from thrift stores.  No two shirts are the same; each one is a unique expression of support and an attempt to lessen our ecological footprint.  The logo was designed by friend, local artist and lover of Awadeshalo Project, Zoe Nelson.  If you are interested in purchasing a shirt, please e-mail me at [email protected] with your shirt size and postal address.  The cost per shirt is $12 if you live in Bellingham and a bit more if you would like them shipped elsewhere.  Since they were recycled shirts, colors are limited, but let me know your preference and I will get back to you on the availability of that color.

Rummage Sale

September 6th and 7th we held a rummage sale with the proceeds going towards a research trip to Ethiopia.  Friends and community members donated items to sell and my friends donated their time in helping to conduct the sale.  There were also delicious cookies, available by donation, baked by my roommate Shawn.  It was a huge success and a lot of fun!  Thank you to everyone involved.
