The Guiding Principles of Awadeshalo Project

**Children should be protected and provided a loving home with opportunity for learning and growth.

**If children experience the pains associated with living on the streets, these children will grow into adults who are not ready to fully participate in society.

**Earth is our sustenance and should be considered in all steps of planning humanitarian efforts

**More needs to be done helping street children on a grassroots scale, walking in solidarity with the people. Solidarity means walking beside and supporting efforts to improve living conditions of the people; not coming in and telling a group what I, from a Western perspective, think they need.

**Other countries should not be expected to have western ideals of living.  Ethiopian culture and way of life is beautiful, embracing family and friendship bonds in an interconnected web of support.  Living conditions should be enhanced in a way that is deemed appropriate to the people of Ethiopia.
